Frequently Asked Questions
Here you’ll find a number of Frequently Asked Questions about our services and offerings. We have tried to cover the most important topics, but if you still have questions after reading, please get in touch directly and we will answer any questions you have.
Is anti-wrinkle treatment safe?
Anti-wrinkle injections (Botox) have been used for a multitude of medical treatments for over 30 years, in both adults and children. It has been licensed for cosmetic purposes for around 18 years, with a second-to-none safety profile.
Anti-wrinkle injections are a very safe cosmetic treatment when performed by a medical professional. The treatment itself uses a prescription-only medically regulated toxin, so it should only be administered by a qualified medical professional.
Who can have anti-wrinkle treatment?
Those who are experiencing fine lines and wrinkles in expressive areas of your face. Age is not a predetermining factor but the best results are often achieved for those under 65.
The treatment is suitable for anyone seeking to smooth these lines - it can be used to prevent fine lines from developing, as well as treating those that are already present.
Anti-wrinkle treatment will only be prescribed after a medical consultation. Please note that key contraindications include pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Are there any side effects?
The most common side effects of anti-wrinkle injections are minimal and temporary. You might experience a small amount of redness and blebbing (bulging) at the injection site, which should reduce within a few hours. Bleeding and/or bruising is also common. This is normal with any kind of injection into the skin.
Further complications are highlighted in our Patient Guide To Anti-Wrinkle Treatment. Please contact us to request a copy.
When can I expect to see results?
It takes anywhere from 2-14 days for results to take full effect. Everyone is different. Two to Three weeks after your treatment you will be invited to a post-procedure review appointment. At this point we can review the results.
How long does anti-wrinkle treatment last?
Botox results are not permanent, and the effects wear off over time. It is recommended that, to maintain the results of anti wrinkle injections, you will probably need the treatment 3-4 times a year, in order to keep the treatment refined and topped up. As your skin becomes smoother the amount of treatment required can lessen. This is dependant on individual preference.
What product will you be using?
There are several popular anti-wrinkle injectables in the United Kingdom. The prescription I will be using is Azzalure 125.
Many people are not aware that Botox is only a brand name. Instead, the medicine behind your wrinkle relaxation is a protein known as Botulinum Toxin type A; a neurotoxin that blocks muscle contractions.
Azzalure 125 is manufactured by the French company Ipsen and marketed in the UK and was approved for cosmetic use by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) in 2009 and is also approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration).
We reconstitute Azzalure 125 with saline bacteriostatic, which reduces pain when injecting.
